Join us for a few hours with Jo, the face behind Ballahane Wood Designs, as she demonstrates the art of pyrography. Dating back to pre-history times where art was created using embers and hot pokers, you will discover how the process has not changed hugely beyond the replacement of an open fire with electricity to produce the heat!
Jo uses a pyrography pen to burn designs into chopping boards, coasters, wooden spoons and more. Using a combination of digital design and photographs, Jo has an extensive range of Manx designs celebrating the beauty, history and language of our Island. She also loves to create bespoke work and has made countless gifts for every kind of celebration.
Jo will chat about how the gift of a pyrography pen resulted in an addictive hobby which then, quite quickly, turned into a small business. Watch the full process as she turns simple squares of Manx sycamore into the bespoke coasters that she makes for Manx National Heritage.
