    40mph zone in St Marks

Work to introduce a 40mph zone in St Marks is expected to get underway today.

The project had originally been scheduled to start on August 31, but was postponed by the Department of Infrastructure for operational reasons.

The DOI is planning to put a 40mph buffer zone on the approach to St Marks Village from the direction of Ballasalla following concerns about speeding in the area from local residents.

More than 1,200 motorists were recorded breaking the speed limit there last month.

The road closure for the initiative will now be in place on the St Marks Road (A26) from 9am to 4pm each day between Ballagarey Methodist Chapel and Orrisdale Road until September 25 at the latest.

The department has previously stated if the weather is poor on any given day, the route will remain open.
