Appeal lodged over sentence in cyclist death case

    Douglas Courthouse

An appeal has been lodged against the sentence handed down to a Sulby woman who killed a cyclist.

The Attorney General's Chambers is appealing the punishment given to 63-year-old Linda Thompson in July because it believes it's unduly lenient.

She received an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving.

On August 4th 2014 she hit physiotherapist Kathryn Burge as she was cycling in Kirk Michael.

Thompson's sentence was broken down as nine months for the driving offence and nine months for other unrelated offences which she'd also admitted.

Appearing at Douglas Courthouse yesterday for a directions hearing Thompson was told she'll next appear in court on November 10th.
