The Treasury has revealed benefit cheats falsely claimed more than £200,000 last year out of a total social security budget of £289 million.
Treasury member Ralph Peake says fraud takes money away from those who genuinely need it, and the department won't hesitate to take action.
Between April and September, eight people were prosecuted for benefit fraud for amounts between £2,000 and £13,000.
If you suspect anyone of committing benefit fraud you can report it on the government website.
