Better uses for fibre optic cables currently being researched

Residents could get better broadband if the Manx Utilities Authority find ways of using fibre optics.

A fibre optic cable consists of a bundle of glass threads that transmit light wave messages - capable of much greater bandwidth. 
 
Telecoms company e-llan Communications is heading up a research project to find out whether or not there's money to be made in the market. 
 
The Council of Ministers will be briefed when the results become available.
