Bird flu: Eggs and poultry are safe to eat, urges DEFA

The government says poultry and eggs are still safe to eat, after a case of avian flu was discovered in a bird in the west of the Island.

A 3km protection zone has been set up around the premises in Patrick where the H5N1 case was confirmed earlier this week.

However, Isle of Man Food and Drink, part of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, says the risk to human health remains low.

It adds well-cooked eggs and poultry are still safe to eat and is urging people to support local producers.
