The risk to human health from bird flu has been described as 'very low'' by the island's chief vet.

Dr Amy Beckett was speaking as the island continues to take measures against the spread of virus.

The first case of avian flu was confirmed in the Isle of Man over the weekend- the government has now introduced an all-island surveillance zone.

It is the first time the virus, which is highly contagious amongst birds, has been recorded on the island.

Dr Becket says while bird-to-human transmission is very rare, care should still be taken.
