British-Irish Council pledge to tackle marine litter

Environment, Food & Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot MHK is joining the British-Irish Council (BIC) pledge to tackle marine litter.

Members of the BIC met in Glasgow yesterday, committing to take further, collaborative action on the matter at a Marine Litter Symposium held at Strathclyde University Technology and Innovation Centre.

Environmental ministers from across the councils administrations attended, and Mr Boot - representing the Isle of Man - said a unified approach is important to facing this international issue.

During the event, members also committed to reduce the loss of pre-production plastics known as 'nurdles', and improving marine litter education for young people and this fishing industry.
