Bus drivers reject DCCL proposals

Of the 94 who took part in the ballot 93 voted against with only one voting in favour.

The outcome of the Ballot was revealed yesterday with the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s preferred option to the drivers turned down.

The proposals would have seen the workers no longer paid for their lunch break, sick pay would have been reduced to come into line with a 37 hour week and maximum driving time would have increased by 25 minutes.

It was estimated these changes would have resulted in roughly a £300,000 saving.

DCCL Minister Graham Cregeen has branded the news ‘disappointing’, saying they had worked hard with Unite the Union to minimise the personal impact on the drivers, whilst delivering their target savings.

The next step will now be determined by the Department.
