Busy Bonfire Night for fire crews

The Island's Fire and Rescue Service says it had a busier Bonfire night than usual - with nine emergency calls.

Port Erin crews were called out four times in just a few hours, attending three small grass fires caused by fireworks and one false alarm when a member of the public mistook a bonfire for a grass fire.

Douglas firefighters put out a blaze in a wheelie bin caused by a sparkler, while in Peel a smouldering firework caused a grass fire.

The service says it didn't deal with any property damage - and had no injuries reported by the public.

It's also reminding people you need a license to set off fireworks from today, or face prosecution under The Fireworks Act 1984.
