A taxi driver has been fined £500 after overtaking an off-duty police officer because he was late for a fare.
45-year-old Murat Kavak, of Urley Path in Douglas, admitted driving without due care and attention at Douglas Courthouse last week.
Kavak overtook the police officer, who was on his way to work, on Glencrutchery Road on February 19th just before 7am.
The officer was attempting to turn into Duke's Avenue at the time - a manoeuvre which was stopped by Kavak's actions.
Kavak's advocate told the court he hadn't been speeding or tailgating describing him as "a taxi driver who was in a bit of a rush" adding he apologised for his "slight error of judgement".
He claimed it could be seen as "overzealous policing" saying "a quiet word would have sufficed".
Magistrates also ordered Kavak to pay £50 in court costs and endorsed his driving licence with three penalty points.
