Calls to safeguard heritage sites following vandalism

A local charity has called to safeguard some of the Island's historic sites, following spates of vandalism.

It's follow reports of damage at both Eary Cushlin and Peel Castle - where the entrance door was targeted and signs were removed.

Eary Cushlin was also affected by damage earlier this month in.

Director of MNH Edmund Southworth says although deliberate damage is rare, the impact is significant.

He adds these instances cause much needed funds to be diverted away from projects to maintain historic buildings.

Anyone caught defacing historic sites, can be fined up to £5,000 and is subject to possible imprisonment.
