Castletown burglar jailed for eight months

A Castletown man who burgled a flat in the building he lived in has been sent to prison for eight months.

25-year-old Daniel Andrews was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse this week after previously pleading guilty to one count of burglary.

Along with partner at the time he stole around £400 of goods at Northcroft Apartments between November 11th and December 3rd last year.

The court heard how he entered the property after a maintenance man had left it unlocked - his advocate said it was his partner's suggestion and he'd gone along with it.

Describing it as an "opportunistic theft" he said it was one which he regretted - all of the items were later recovered and returned.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described it as a "sneak burglary" - saying burglary always had an impact on victims.

She said she had no option but to impose a custodial punishment - as Andrews had broken his previous suspended sentence she handed him five months for that and a further three for the offence.
