Cav back to winning ways on home soil

Cavendish said it was great to be home again

The newly crowned Sports Personality of the Year was back to winning ways in the Isle of Man yesterday.

While on a Christmas trip back home, Mark Cavendish claimed the annual Hamper Race where he was up against many other leading Manx cyclists.

The world road-racing champion beat Tom Black in to second place in the friendly event.

The Laxey man pulled away from the rest of the field to take victory on the new course in the Ballaugh and Cronk area.

His victory was ensured after three laps when he built an unassailable lead over the likes of Christian Varley, Rob Sorbey and a host of leading juniors.

Afterwards Cav said he loved being back home and seeing all the other Manx cyclists again.
