Mark Cavendish had his chances of bagging a third win in yesterday’s stage 9 of the Giro D’Italia blighted by a multiple rider crash.
The Manx man was favourite for the sprint finish; the win instead went to Spaniard Francisco Ventoso.
Cavendish was just behind the pile up as he was about to position himself for the sprint finale, he ended up sliding off his saddle and going into the barriers almost falling; the good news however is that he escaped totally uninjured.
Taking to his twitter the World Champion expressed his disdain that another stage sprint finish was ruined by a crash, he did however have praise for his team sky team mates.
Today will see the 10th stage taking the riders on a 186km treck from Civitavecchia to Assisi.
