    CCTV's impact applauded by minister

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson outlined the impact CCTV has made in tackling crime

CCTV looks set to become an increasing presence throughout the Island after an answer by the Home Affairs Minister in the House of Keys today.

Juan Watterson said his department considered the surveillance system to be an effective tool in the detection of crime and reducing the fear of it.

Responding to a question by Douglas North’s Bill Henderson, Mr Watterson said it was impossible to determine exactly how many crimes the systems have so far prevented.

However, he said that research shows it makes a considerable difference to the safety of a community and people feel about protected against crime.

The Minister also highlighted that CCTV has also detected serious incidents such as murder and concluded by outlining its increasing use by the police force.
