An Island man whose mother was killed by a man on parole has taken the Celtic League to task - saying it's using the tragedy for political gain.
Stuart Valentine's mother Gwen died when Donovan Kitching lost control of a car as he fled police in April 2014.
A report earlier this week made serious criticisms of the prison, parole board, probation service and police.
But after the Celtic League claimed it had been warning about the parole system for ten years, Mr Valentine accused it of political points-scoring.
The Celtic League said it asked the Department of Home Affairs about the parole system in 2007 and 2010, adding it had taken a tragedy to bring about reform.
Bernard Moffatt, posting on Facebook, also accused the department of managing news by embargoing a press release to the media.
But replying on the page, Mr Valentine pointed out the press release couldn't be used until the report had been published.
And he added: "Be constructive or shut up, that's my advice. This isn't about you."
