Following an extensive consultation period, the DED has unveiled the changes for the Manx Grand Prix that could come into effect by next year.
The proposals, if passed, would see a significant reduction in modern machinery with a new emphasis on the classic bikes in an effort to capture the nostalgia market.
It’s hoped by making these changes the department could establish the most prestigious classic motorcycle event in the world.
Other changes would see it shortened to 10 days, with it climaxing on the August Bank Holiday; it’s thought this would capitalise on the short-break motorsports market.
The DoE is aiming to attract more motorsports media, with an improved programme of commercial activity, including television coverage, sponsorship, brand licensing, digial activation and event ticketing.
The desire for change came about when it was determined that the event was resulting in a government loss of £369,000 a year.
