Charity says there's been a huge increase in abandoned birds

An Island animal charity says it's seen a huge jump in the number of birds it's being asked to look after.

The ManxSPCA says last year it had 14 pet birds to look after - compared to just four the year before.

On Facebook, the organisation says the majority of birds had to be left with it when owners moved into care homes or fell ill.

It says in total its small animals unit looked after 63 new arrivals in 2024, including budgies, rabbits, goldfish and cornsnakes.
