Chief Minister 'should withdraw' remarks about Ramsey MHK

The chief minister is set to by rebuked by a parliamentary committee over comments he made when Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper resigned as health minister.

Alf Cannan's language included "fabrication, falsehood and gaslighting", sparking an investigation by the Tynwald Standards And Members' Interests Committee.

In a report due before the court next month, the committee says the language was unacceptable and Mr Cannan should be asked to withdraw the remarks.

A second recommendation says all members need more training in the principles of parliamentary language and debate.
