Chief Minister to be asked about Freedom of Information act

The Chief Minister will be asked in the House of Keys tomorrow if he plans to introduce a Freedom of Information act to the Island.

It's an area where the Island is still trailing behind with the UK introducing their own act in 2005.

Since then pressure has been put on the government to follow suite, most notably by the Positive Action Group.

It received its first reading in the final sitting of the House before the summer recess and elections.

Former Chief Minister Tony Brown had previously said given the current economic climate a freedom of information act would be too expensive to maintain, with annual costs of £1 million with a further £2 million needed to set it up.

The question will be asked tomorrow by Liberal Vannin member Kate Beecroft.
