Commissioners call for Dhoon Glen closure to be reconsidered

By Emma Draper - Local Democracy Reporter

Garff Commissioners is calling on the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture to reconsider the closure of a path in Dhoon Glen.

The department has created a diverted trail to deal with between 30 and 60 trees which are rotting.

Garff Commissioner Marinda Fargher says the authority would like DEFA to ‘reconsider’ the arrangement and ‘justify’ the decision to close the section of path.

She says: “The commissioners are particularly concerned that this closure decision may create a precedent for management of trees and glens in the future.

“They will be seeking a meeting with departmental officers to obtain further information and to ask them to ensure that their plans are fully communicated to the public.”

The Local Democracy Reporting Service has contacted DEFA for a comment but it has not responded.
