Castletown commissioners say more than 140 people support keeping the town's Market Square closed permanently.
They took to social media amid an ongoing row about the future of the town centre, with the local authority seeking to pedestrianise it.
After a public meeting took place, the board said on Facebook the Department of Infrastructure had a petition submitted by more than 140 residents and visitors to support its proposals.
It say the petition shows people want safety, accessibility, and long-term sustainability instead of short-term convenience.
