Community service for woman who punched policeman

22-year-old Aimee Minty was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse yesterday after previously admitting assaulting the officer on February 20th. 

 

Police were called to her home after a family dispute - Minty agreed to leave the property but instead went back into her bedroom. 

 

When the PC went to speak to her she was said to "launch herself" at him, punching out and striking him in the face - the impact caused his eye to swell and he was signed off work for two days. 

 

Describing the incident as "completely out of character" Minty's advocate said the attack "didn't come out of animosity towards the police" and instead was as a result of her alcohol consumption. 

 

Sentencing her Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes noted she had written to the officer to apologise and said she was prepared to deal with the matter as a "one off aberration" which was caused by intoxication. 

 

She sentenced Minty to 160 hours of community service, to be carried out over the next year, and ordered her to pay £500 in compensation to the officer as well as £213 in costs.
