Costliest tuition fees revealed in Tynwald

The biggest by a long way is medicine, that’s cost the government almost £2million over the past four years alone.

Architecture came in at £822,000 since 2007 followed by veterinary at £557,000 and dental at £410,000.

Education Minister Peter Karran confirmed the figures after a question by Speaker of the House Steve Rodan.

This year alone, the four subjects have cost Tynwald almost £850,000 – that’s a rise of more than £266,000 since 2007.

It was also revealed that the Isle of Man is now second only to England in the list of countries where Manx students attend university.

A total of 684 have stayed here over the past four years while more than 2,100 headed to England. Scottish universities attracted 136, Wales 86 and Northern Ireland 22 while 42 have gone to university outside the UK.
