Criminal damage caused to former Cross Vein Mine

Cross Vein Mine, or Snuff the Wind, was a former mine in Foxdale.

Police are investigating criminal damage in the Foxdale area.

The Western Neighbourhood Policing Team says perimeter wire fencing and also six ‘No Public Access’ signs at Cross Vein Mine (commonly known as 'Snuff the Wind') were targeted.

The area of former mining land in the south of the Island closed to the public back in March 2020.

The Isle of Man Government restricted all access to its land at Cross Vein in Foxdale, due to concerns caused by historic waste material from the former mine.

It's now been reported sometime between 4pm on Wednesday, September 8 and 10am the following day, the perimeter fence has been cut in two places and white paint has been daubed onto six ‘No Public Access’ signs; so they now read ‘Public Access.’

Anyone with information as to who is responsible, is asked to contact Police Headquarters on 631212.
