Customs seize meat and cheese from campervan

The government says it's seized meat and cheese from people arriving in Douglas from Europe as part of measures to prevent foot and mouth disease arriving here.

The tourists had travelled from Europe in a campervan - it's the first seizure in Douglas since the Island introduced new rules banning the products.

Customs and immigration staff confiscated more than four kilos of cooked meats and 11 packets of cheese weighing just under a kilogram.

The restrictions hope to protect Manx farms after outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Europe.
