The government is reminding landowners to trim their trees, or face being fined up to £5000.
It says managing trees on your land is your responsibility and is asking you to keep them tidy.
The Department of Infrastructure says trees lining the island's highways can add beauty and support wildlife, but become a risk when overgrown or neglected.
The department says guidance for landowners is clear - keep branches trimmed to at least 5.3 metres above roads and 2.4 metres above footways.
