DBC changes to 'strengthen democractic process'

The leader of Douglas Borough Council (DBC) says reducing the number of wards and membership is 'strengthening the democractic process'.

It comes after DBC resolved to cut wards down from six to four, and membership from 18 to 12.

Mr Christian added the move better reflects a 'growing borough in the 21st century' - which would lead to greater involvement from members in decision-making and fairer representation.

The result of a public inquiry on the matter is expected today - should the report on it prove positive, the new system would come into effect in 2020.
