The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has a new director of animal and plant health.
Alistair Breed takes over the post, which includes the role of chief veterinary officer.
The department says the job now includes responsibility for plant health which had been split between different parts of DEFA.
Mr Breed has worked at the department since 1989 and is a veterinary surgeon.
