Department plans to cut work permit costs

The Department of Economic Development says it plans to cut the costs of a work permit - costing the taxpayer £80,000 a year.

In Tynwald this month, Minister Laurence Skelly will ask the court to back plans to charge a flat £60 fee for permits, no matter how long for.

It'll mean individual and companies won't have to pay extra for longer permits - at present it would cost £300 for a document covering more than four years.

The department says it'll cut red tape without adding to its admin costs.
