DESC 'committed to more talks with unions'

The Department of Education, Sport & Culture says it remains committed to further talks with teachers unions during an ongoing dispute.

Three unions representing teachers on Island have written to the department Chief Executive to outline their intention to ballot members over potential industrial action next year over pay and conditions.

DESC officials are reiterating the government 'recognises the commitment and dedication of all teachers to provide a first class education for the children of the Isle of Man.'

In October a 2.75 per cent rise across all pay scales was agreed along with a 10-point action plan - however, discussions due to take place at the start of this month were postponed.
