DHSS To Launch Tuberculosis Awareness Campaign
Next Wednesday marks World Tuberculosis day, in light of this the DHSS have launched a campaign to raise awareness to the illness.
The centre point of the campaign is a credit card sized information card highlighting the signs and symptoms of TB and what to do if you think you have it.
On the Island an average of 6 to 10 people per year suffer from the condition, it’s symptoms include chronic cough and blood tinged mucus.
In the UK they’ve seen a steady increase in cases over the past few years, leading to the Global Plan to Stop TB, through public campaigns like the one being run on the Island they hope halve cases by 2015.
Although they don’t want people to worry about TB the DHSS say it’s of the upmost importance that people can recognise the symptoms.
The campaign will be launched on Wednesday 24th March.
