Disguised knife carrier jailed

A man who admitted possessing a disguised knife while on probation for carrying a blade in public has been jailed for 18 weeks.

26 year old Jonathan James Elliott of Tynwald Road in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

The court heard he’d had a lock knife which looked like a credit card on January 27 - just months after committing a similar offence.

Initially, he told police he’d thought the knife was a gym membership card, but in court he admitted knowingly carrying a knife.

He also admitted resisting police officers during a separate incident on December 23.

Mrs Hughes jailed him for eight weeks for resisting police, and another 10 weeks for carrying a bladed article to run consecutively.

She ordered the knife be forfeited and destroyed, and banned Elliott from entering licensed premises or buying alcohol for 12 months.
