New laws could see dog mess tested for DNA in an attempt to identify irresponsible owners - but only if local authorities take charge of the testing.
That's the message from Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot who faced questions in the House of Keys yesterday.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper wanted to know what consultation had been done about DNA testing as the government brings in new laws about dogs.
Mr Boot said the decision was now in the hands of the Island's councillors and commissioners:
