    Douglas recyclables 'not for burning'

Recyclables being collected in Douglas are 'not for burning'.

Douglas Borough Council has reiterated the message after it says comments had been made suggesting recycled material being picked up in the Island capital is then incinerated.

The authority's Environmental Services Committee Chairman, Ritchie McNicholl, says recycling is about reducing the carbon footprint and preserving the environment for future generations and not just 'because it's the right thing to do'.

He's clarifying the material is sorted, bulked and baled and then either exported to and sold in the UK or on Island to be reprocessed into other resources.
