    Enforcing cannabis laws 'threatens police legitimacy'

    The Chief Constable is worried enforcing the Island's cannabis laws could undermine police authority, as attitudes towards the drug change.

    This week he was giving evidence to Tynwald's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee and was asked about cannabis use and decriminalisation.

    He told committee members a decision on decriminalising cannabis would have to be made by Tynwald, but that the drug is already ubiquitous on the Island.

    And he added he was concerned police enforcement wasn't in step with the public's views:
