Female figures in parliament give Island rankings boost

The Isle of Man has leapt up a league table of women in parliament after the last Legislative Council elections, according to an Oxford professor.

Peter Edge, a professor of Law at Oxford Brookes University, says he's analysed data after five women filled vacancies in March.

Previously, Tynwald had been in 178th place in the Inter-Parliamentary Union's league table with just 5.7 per cent women.

However, with just over 31 per cent women in the court, the Island's now in 44th place - just below the UK.
