Figures show increase in women travelling off-Island for abortion

Campaigners say last year saw a huge jump in the number of women travelling to the UK from the Isle of Man for abortions.

But the Campaign for Abortion Law Modernisation says new Manx legislation should mean fewer women will now need to do so.

Figures from the UK's Department of Health show last year 95 women were forced to go off-Island for the procedure, compared to just 84 the year before.

CALM says it hopes the data will remind Tynwald members the legislation easing restrictions on abortions affects the real lives of real people.
