Firefighters spend 6 hours & over 60,000 litres of water tackling Greeba blaze

The Island's Fire Service dealt with an out of control wild fire in Greeba at the weekend.

Crews were called at around 3pm on Saturday, where the fire had been caused by a controlled burn that was no longer under control.

The 1km of flames required 30 firefighters from three stations, over 60,000 litres of water and three off road vehicles.

The service says 'aside from the expense that this cost the taxpayer, all of the resources were tied up and unavailable for other emergency responses for six hours.'

The public is asked to consider this before deciding to burn off or set any outside fires in the summer months.
