Former civil servant tribunal costs nearly £65,000

A former civil servant who took the Clerk of Tynwald's office to two unsuccessful employment tribunals and an appeal has so far cost the taxpayer almost £65,000.

A Freedom of Information request asked for the costs incurred by the chairman and members of the Island's employment tribunal in the Graeme Jones case.

He lost claims for constructive dismissal and unlawful deductions of wages as well as an appeal - in 2022 a tribunal said he was prone to exaggeration and dramatization, and many of his problems were self-inflicted.

In its response, the General Registry says the three-strong tribunal had been paid £64,997.70 for its attendance, preparation and report-writing work since 2020.
