Good result for Island's beach water quality

A recent beach water quality investigation has revealed that only two of the Island’s beaches failed to reach the mandatory standard required.

The two failures occurred in Peel and Garwick in Baldrine, this has been attributed to the fact these areas do not have sewage treatment.

It marks the best result for the Island since 2006 and the second best since sampling began in 1989.

The beaches in Derby haven and Castletown were among the select few that had achieved an excellent quality standard.

The good results were a surprise given the heavy rainfall throughout the summer, which traditionally would have meant more increased pollution from surface run-off.
