Government issues advice to protect nesting birds

The government has issued advice to protect birds as they start nesting.

It says the coming months are 'hugely important' as birds start making their nests in trees, hedgerows, buildings and cliffs, or places like beaches.

The Ayres Nature Reserve is a common place for ground nesting birds from April to July.

The public is asked to keep dogs on leads, stay out of fenced areas and keep to paths, and steer clear of agitated birds.

Failure to do so could result in a fine.
