    Government plans pig subsidy changes

There's good news for farmers bringing home the bacon this month - with changes to subsidies for pigs.

When Tynwald sits next week, it'll consider introducing the Pig Premium Scheme backed by Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot.

The proposals would replace two support schemes dating back to 2009, and would see producers paid up to £40 per carcass.

The department says the new scheme will allow pig farmers to compete more readily with their UK and EU counterparts.
