Government pledges £200,000 to help Turkey and Syria

The Isle of Man government has pledged £200,000 to support humanitarian relief work in Turkey and Syria.

It comes following Monday's devastating earthquake, with the latest figures showing over 20,000 people have died.

Half of the donation is going to the Disaster Emergency Committee, with the remainder being given to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Both organisations are providing immediate relief efforts including basic emergency shelter, medical treatment and access to food and water.

The funding comes from the government's international development disaster and emergency relief budget.
