Government says updating quarry laws would keep workers safe

The government says quarry workers would be safer if Tynwald approves new laws next month.

Updated health and safety rules will replace laws dating back to the 1950s, which the government describes as outdated for modern machinery.

The new regulations would bring the Island in line with the UK, introduce stricter controls for operating machines, and better training to prevent accidents.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says Manx quarry operators already follow British standards as good practice, but the laws would mean they can be enforced.
