Manx Utilities has begun work as part of the government's plan to decarbonise the Island's electricity supply within the next seven years.
The aim is to produce up to 30 megawatts of electricity from wind and solar energy by 2026.
Electricity demand on Island currently averages at around 40 megawatts, peaking at 75 in winter and falling to as low as 25 in summer.
The move comes as concerns over global gas supply has seen prices soar, fuelling inflation and putting pressure on energy bills.
