Govt cut funding to film E2E bike race

Television coverage of this year’s End-2-End mountain bike race is in doubt after the government confirmed it wouldn’t fund filming of the event.

Tromode-based Greenlight Television started covering the event in 2005 when just a few hundred people took part.

The event now attracts 1,700 with around 650 travelling competitors from the UK and further a field

Highlights are usually shown on Sky Sports.

Over the next couple of years the race is set to overtake the Parish Walk in terms of popularity after entries had to be capped with six weeks still to go.

Previously, the government had said it wanted to capitalise on the popularity of the event in a bid to boost the profile of the Isle of Man.

This year’s race takes place on September 7.
