Gov't 'doing all it can to keep schools open' during strike action

Students could be asked to stay at home on days where teachers plan to strike.

That's the admission from government - as it states it's 'doing all it can to keep schools open'.

It adds 'every effort is being made during the six days of strikes planned by teachers' but admits asking pupils not to turn up at school can't be ruled out.

Education Minister Julie Edge says headteachers will be writing to parents in the next few days with more information.

Strikes were announced by teaching union NASUWT earlier this month, after the union rejected what the Minister called a 'fair and generous' pay offer.

As of yet, the NASUWT hasn't confirmed the number of teachers taking part in the strike action - the first of which is set to take place later this month.

Strike action by the NASUWT is planned on the following dates:

    Wednesday 30 November 2022
    Thursday 1 December 2022
    Wednesday 11 January 2023
    Thursday 12 January 2023
    Wednesday 15 February 2023
    Thursday 16 February 2023.
