Higher prom wall needed to combat climate change sea rise

The government says a new, higher sea wall on Douglas promenade will protect a planned tram turning area at the War Memorial.

The Department of Infrastructure has applied for planning permission to build a reinforced concrete wall 500 metres long.

Standing at around four feet tall, the wall would protect against waves that currently wash over the existing sea wall.

It says the project, which will protect against rising sea levels caused by climate change, will eventually need to cover the whole length of the promenade and may need to be raised another two feet higher in future.
